Memorable day in Dali

image5.jpgReached Dali railway station at 6:10 AM. Tour guide Miss. Yang (an young Chinese girl wearing Dali traditional dress and a cap) accompanied us. We visited 3 pagodas of Buddha, Ancient City, Village Market and Marble House. I had the first ship travel experience to Nanzhao style island from Dali. We spent time in Ship by singing Dali song and playing Majo game. Yes, the tour guide was teaching us the song and games 🙂 In the island a huge Avalokiteswara statue was standing. Evening dance show in Dali was a unforgettable life-time moment for me and I was so impressed with that 2 hour colorful and spectacular dance show by Chinese folk artists of “Butterfly Dreams” group. Dali is the city with the theme of Love, where the tradition is young people propose their love to sweet-heart in Butterfly-spring-lake during the month of April. The Dali folk song (which became the theme song for Dali city, after the movie ‘Five Golden Flowers’ came with this song during 1950s) goes as follows:

“dali san yuan hao fen huang ee; wu thei chuan bien hao shu juang; wu thei fei lei tsai hua mi yun; amei shu tao wei na juang?”

This translates to English like “April is the best season in Dali. A lady is combing her hair, sitting beside the Butterfly Spring. The butterflies come here to collect the honey. Why do the girls come here to comb?”
